Forposttræfning ved Dybbøl By 17. marts 1864


Maleriet forestiller kampen i Dybbøl by 17. marts 1864. Min tipoldefar, Søren petersen Wadskjær, deltog som menig i denne kamp. Jeg ved ikke, hvordan min tipoldefar så ud, så jeg har ikke afbilledet ham direkte. Jeg har kun været to måneder om at lave maleriet, som er halv størrelse i forhold til de seneste malerier, som jeg har lavet.

Skirmish at Dybbøl Village the 17th of March 1864
I chose this motive because my great grand dad, Søren Petersen Wadskjær, participated in this skirmish as a NGO. I do not know what he looked like, but he was neither, killed, captured nor wounded. His unit was 3rd Coy of 8th Regiment (in black uniforms) of the Danish Army which was at war with Prussia and Austria. Third Coy made a counterattack to push the Prussians longer away from fortifications at Dybbøl. Unfortunately the Prussians got reinforcements and 3rd Coy had to retreat together with the rest of Danish forces.
